When my bestfriend visited a fashion museum in the Great Britain recently, she came across an exhibition of antique or vintage wedding dresses that were worn during royal weddings throughout the century. Rekaan gaun perkahwinan dahulu kala tidak kurang hebatnya jika dibandingkan dengan rekaan gaun perkahwinan pada zaman serba moden kini.

Most of the designs are very frilly, full-sleeved and yet they are beautiful. We have to remember that in the olden days, fair maids are bound to be demure and sweet and give the impressions of fragile, delicate beauties. This one dress exudes just that impression.

Notice that they are generally more heavier in material and like any classic vintage dress of the era, it is more full-skirted. Perbezaan antara rekaan klasik dan rekaan moden amat ketara juga dari segi potongan dan penggunaan fabric. Wanita tidak lagi menggemari skirt kembang bulat dan bahagian pinggang yang sangat ketat sehingga menyukarkan pernafasan. Besides being painful, it is not exactly considered to be fashionable anymore.

These are the all important flower & eggs combination known as the “Bunga Telur”.

Kepada kita rakyat Malaysia, bunga telur ini adalah perkara biasa yang selalu didapati di mana-mana perkahwinan orang Melayu. But just in case you have been living in the Amazons and have no idea what these are, these are the gifts for the guests at Malay weddings which mainly consist of decorated flowers and hard-boiled eggs. Lazimnya orang dewasa akan diberi bunga telur manakala kanak-kanak akan diberi gula-gula.

Although we know the existence of this ‘bunga telur’, not every single one of us understands the meaning it represents. Bunga telur ini bukan suatu pembaziran kerana pemberian ini merupakan sebahagian adat orang Melayu. The decorated flowers and the eggs represents fertility for the newlyweds (in hopes of having babies soon, of course!).

Kebanyakan bunga telur menggunakan cucuk lidi sebagai asas tetapi ada juga bunga telur yang diberi dalam bentuk kotak hiasan. The boiled eggs are put into a decorated box or casing and not in the flower and sticks form. Sweets are sometimes given out in this manner too.

However it is, this ‘bunga telur’ is a must in every Malay weddings. A small token of appreciation and souvenirs for the guests attending the wedding reception.

     Wedding cakes are a must in every wedding. Whether your wedding reception is a fancy flight or just a simple one, the wedding cake will still be a beautiful attraction.

It’s a trend nowadays to have beautiful wedding cakes that simply look too good to be eaten. Most are made from fondant as they are easily crafted and molded into forms. Semakin ramai yang bercita rasa tinggi dan tidak hanya memilih kek buah atau kek yang sarat berkrim sebagai pilihan hati. Mungkin sebelum ini kita tidak pernah mencuba ‘empire cut’ dress kerana berpandangan yang potongan itu boleh membuatkan kita kelihatan lebih pendek tetapi jangan risau. Kasut tumit tinggi dan fabrik yang digunakan juga memainkan peranan yang penting dalam membuatkan sesuatu gaun itu sesuai untuk diri kita ataupun tidak.
